Online Cinéclub - 7th July

In only a few weeks, we will be reopening the Alliance Française French Film Festival, which was interrupted in March due to the COVID-19 outbreak. So while you’re waiting for cinemas to reopen, join us for our monthly online cinéclub and watch some of the highlights of previous French Film Festivals, about creative spirits who strive for perfection in their artistic field.

Rodin (2017) – AF FFF 2018

In 1880 Paris, 40 year-old sculptor Auguste Rodin finally receives his first state commission, "The Gates of Hell," which includes "The Kiss" and "The Thinker," two of his most famous creations. Constantly working, he shares his life with his lifelong partner, Rose, and his mistress, the young Camille Claudel, the gifted student who becomes his assistant and a talented sculptor in her own right during a decade of passion, mutual admiration and creative collaboration.

Orchestra Class (2017) – AF FFF 2018

Simon is a distinguished, but disillusioned violinist. He has recently gone through a divorce and found a job teaching orchestra in a working-class neighbourhood of Paris. Arnold is a shy and chubby student who is fascinated with the violin and discovers that he has real talent for it. With Arnold’s raw talent and the joyous energy of his class, Simon gradually rediscovers the joys of music. But will he keep his promise to take the class to perform at the Paris Philharmonic?

Girl (2018) – AF FFF 2019

Determined 15-year-old Lara is committed to becoming a professional ballerina. With the support of her father, she throws herself into this quest for the absolute at a new school. Lara’s adolescent frustrations and impatience are heightened as she realised her body does not bend so easily to the strict discipline because she was born a boy.
