Join Monia Allegre for an insightful artist talk as part of her solo exhibition at the Zig Zag Gallery (Kalamunda) for the IOTA Festival, starting September 14th. Monia will delve into her innovative approach to art, exploring how contemporary artists blend craft and humor to create engaging and thought-provoking works. In this one-hour presentation at the Alliance Française of Perth, she will share her experiences, from her international studies and residencies to her dynamic art practice. Discover how Monia’s site-specific responses and interactive artworks challenge perceptions and foster community connection.

Monia Allegre is a visual artist with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design in Paris and experience from prestigious international residencies like Rijksakademie and EKWC in the Netherlands. Since 2003, she has been based in Perth, after studying art history and drawing in Florence, and living in Amsterdam, London, Houston, and Paris.

She has been a finalist for various public art commissions in Western Australia, including the Heath Ledger Theatre and Bandyup Women’s Prison. Monia’s notable works include projects for the Alliance Française of Perth, Subiaco Primary School, and several private commissions. Her art is site-specific, innovative, and often interactive, reflecting contemporary life and history.

Monia also creates porcelain sculptures and believes in making art accessible and engaging. She has taught at UWA School of Design and given multiple lectures on contemporary art. She frequently visits the Venice Biennale and is deeply connected to both contemporary and historical art.
